Diurnal and seasonal patterns of global urban dry islands

چکیده

Abstract Urban heat islands (UHIs) are a widely studied phenomenon, while research on urban-rural differences in humidity, the so called urban dry or moisture (UDIs, UMIs), is less common and large-scale quantification of seasonal diurnal patterns UDI still lacking. However, UDI/UMI effect essential to understand impacts humidity outdoor thermal comfort, building energy consumption, ecology cities worldwide. Here, we use set globally distributed air temperature measurements (1089 stations) quantify UHI resulting from rapid urbanization over many regions world. The terms ‘absolute UDI’ ‘relative defined, which urban–rural actual relative metrics, respectively. Results show that absolute largest during daytime with peak decrease areas occurring late afternoon hours. In contrast, night (RH) vapor pressure deficit (VPD) increase occurs evening hours values around ?10% ?11% for RH 2.9–3.6 hPa VPD between 20–00 local time summer. Relative UDIs warm season, except UDI, does not any pattern. agreement literature, canopy shown be nighttime larger summer than winter. predominantly caused by changes day nighttime.

Comparing the diurnal and seasonal variabilities of atmospheric and surface urban heat islands based on the Beijing urban meteorological network

This study compared the diurnal and seasonal cycles of atmospheric and surface urban heat islands (UHIs) based on hourly air temperatures (Ta) collected at 65 out of 262 stations in Beijing and land surface temperature (Ts) derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer in the years 2013–2014. We found that the nighttime atmospheric and surface UHIs referenced to rural cropland stat...

A synoptic study on seasonal patterns of wet and dry spells in midwest of Iran

The effective patterns and mechanisms of synoptic systems during the wet and dry spells in Midwest of Iran(MWI) analyzed and discussed on seasonal scales from 1974 to 2003. Synoptic Analysis is based on synoptic chartson Sea Level Pressure (SLP), 850 and 500 Hpa levels. The results of synoptic analysis show that dry spells in MWIare mostly corresponded to Azores High (AZH) intensifying and its ...

Seasonal and Diurnal Patterns of Spore Dispersal by Leptosphaeria maculans

Canola (Brassica napus L. and B. rapa L.), is one of the major oilseed crops grown worldwide. With significant expansion of acreage sown to canola during the past two decades, concern about blackleg, the most serious disease of canola, has increased (3,4). Blackleg disease is caused by Leptosphaeria maculans (Desmaz.) Ces. & De Not. (anamorph: Phoma lingam (Tode:Fr.) Desmaz.). The pathogen can ...

Seasonal, diurnal and nocturnal variations of carbonyl compounds in the semi-urban environment of Orléans, France.

Atmospheric carbonyls were measured at a semi-urban site in Orléans, France, from October 2010 to July 2011. Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone were found to be the most abundant carbonyls, with average concentrations of 3.1, 1.0, 2.0 ppb, respectively in summer, 2.3, 0.7, 2.2 ppb, respectively in autumn, 2.2, 1.0, 2.1 ppb, respectively in spring, and 1.5, 0.7, 1.1 ppb, respectively in wint...
